"I can do everything with ease on the stage,
whereas in real life I feel too big and clumsy.
So I didn't choose acting.  It chose me."
~ Ingrid Bergman

NAME:  Tara Battani

BORN:  Des Moines, Iowa

HOMETOWN: Austin, Texas

CHILDHOOD AMBITION: To look like Amy Grant, act like Hayley Mills, and marry River Phoenix.

EARLY CLAIMS TO FAME: Winning "Guest Day" on The New Mickey Mouse Club at age 12 and getting to spend the day with her favorite star, Amy Grant; and at age 15, being featured in the cult classic Dazed and Confused ("I never met a Tara before, you're my first")

FAVORITE ACTRESSES: Natalie Wood, Audrey Hepburn, Judi Dench, Emma Thompson, Geraldine Page, Gena Rowlands, Kim Stanley, Helena Bonham Carter, Rita Hayworth, Anne Bancroft

FAVORITE ACTORS: Peter O'Toole, Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford, Mickey Rourke, Paul Scofield, Denzel Washington, Sean Penn, Jack Nicholson, Cary Grant, Edward Norton

FAVORITE MOVIES: Splendor in the Grass, A Man and A Woman, Days of Wine and Roses, The Goodbye Girl, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Dead Poets Society, Shaun of the Dead, The Big Lebowski, A Woman Under The Influence, The Goonies

IT'S WEIRD BUT: I read my favorite books from my childhood over and over again.  Mostly my Nancy Drew books, my Ramona Quimby books, The Baby-sitters Club books, and my Judy Blume books.

WHAT INSPIRED ME TO BE AN ACTRESS: Splendor in the Grass.  I saw it when I was 15.  Natalie Wood floored me.  It was like watching someone's heart break right in front of you.  I felt everything she felt.  It's one of the best performances captured on film.  I just discovered Midnight Express a few years ago, too.  Brad Davis is extraordinary in that.  I couldn't get over him.  He mesmerized me.  Also seeing Brando in Streetcar - a cliché but true. Gena Rowlands in A Woman Under The Influence.  That one will set you back.  Geraldine Page in Sweet Bird of Youth.  Peter O'Toole in The Lion In Winter and My Favorite Year and Goodbye Mr. Chips.  Gary Oldman in practically anything he's in.  And any close-up of Mickey Rourke or Sean Penn is an acting class.

FAVORITE PLAYS: The Crucible, The Miracle Worker, Fool for Love

FAVORITE MUSICALS: Sunday in the Park with George, Into The Woods, Chess, West Side Story

I COULDN'T LIVE WITHOUT:  My hottie husband.  He's my best friend and makes me laugh like no one else.

MY FRIENDS WOULD DESCRIBE ME AS: Loud.  Genuine.  A theologian who cusses.

LYRICS THAT BEST DESCRIBE ME: "Everything I'm not, everything I need ... Jesus, be."
